Celebrate The New Website and Blog

A new website deserves a celebration. I was pondering ways to promote the new website aside from telling everyone I know and annoying them again with yet another post about my new site. I have been seeing Facebook giveaways everywhere on my feed and thought it would be a great way to promote the site and get people interacting with the Steve’s Music Room Facebook page too. I thought, “I’ll just buy a few things and host a giveaway on Facebook like everyone else.” Not as easy as you would think. As it turns out, Facebook has regulations to follow to host a giveaway and countries, provinces, and states have these things called ‘laws’ governing contests for small businesses. Facebook needs a contest to have its Official Rules posted and the contest needs to state that it is not affiliated with Facebook. As well, in Canada, a company can host a giveaway as long as no one is paying and a winner is selected at random or using a skill testing question. Also, have you ever noticed that Canadian contests always seem to say “not open to residents of Quebec?” That is because Quebec has its own regulator with a lot of rules around hosting contests and thus, for the most part, are extremely exclusive toward businesses outside of Quebec. They also have some complicated rules that many contest organizers just don’t want to deal with. Therefore, Quebec is mostly left out of every cross-Canadian contest ever made. This one is no different, unfortunately. Also, I would have loved to open this to all of North America and Europe, where many of Steve’s Music Room fans are located but I am not a lawyer and do not want to get in trouble if I don’t have to. Also, the prize is mostly Long & McQuade Musical Instruments swag which is a Canadian company with stores in every major city in the country, but none in any other country.

I found a template online for the Official Rules and put in my information where it was applicable so that I didn’t really have to study law and spend months drafting an Official Rules write up. The Official Rules for this contest are listed below!

Here is the Facebook post and if you go to my official Facebook page, you will find this. If you are eligible, please enter!
